Jake was part of the 83rd Infantry Division, 324th Field Artillery Battalion. They were known as The Thunderbolt, “the thundering herd from the eighty-third,” because their path through Europe resembled a thunderbolt.
Jake fought in five campaigns in the European Theatre. Among the awards he received while serving his country were the Silver Star and the Purple Heart.
Following WW II, Jake returned to civilian life as a train conductor on the Pennsylvania Rail Road, working The Paoli Local between Philadelphia and the Main Line suburbs.
As a member of the Upper Main Line VFW Post 5203, Jake helps fellow veterans, and works with community members and school children interested in cultivating patriotism.Back to Vets Page
